Why you need a spacer band
You’ve probably heard that diamonds are the hardest substance on earth. That is important to know, because anything a diamond comes into contact with will be scratched… including other diamonds. For this reason, I always suggest adding a spacer when wearing a ring that has diamonds set in the band. Read on to learn more…
First, what exactly is a spacer band? The spacer is an all-metal band that is meant to sit between your engagement ring and your wedding band, or within a stack of multiple bands. It is intended to protect your diamond bands rings from wearing on one another. A spacer band’s primary purpose is to create a buffer between two rings, one of which (if not both) contains diamonds. Because diamonds will scratch and chip one another if they come into contact, I suggest an all metal spacer band to be worn against any diamond band so that the metal band will take the scratching. I find this to be a better choice over damaging your diamond ring(s). Hope you agree :)
An all metal spacer band forms a beautiful patina over time, from the normal wear and tear of life. To me, this enhances the meaning and sentiment associated with the band. It’s lived in, worn, a part of your unique story…
Not only does your spacer band serve to protect your diamond band(s), it is a beautiful way to start your stack. The contrast of a diamond band next to an all metal band adds texture and visual interest - both of which are key to styling your stack. Read more on the Art of Stacking here.
Spacer bands come in a range of shapes and thicknesses. What is most crucial about an all metal spacer, is that the height of it be tall enough off of the finger to fully cover the diamonds in the band it sits next to. Have questions? Check out our Spacer Band Highlight Reel on Instagram.
