The story behind my signature design

“A sense of direction is priceless upon life’s course. Like a compass, I’ve always relied on my heart to guide my metaphorical travels – and when it comes to the most personal things, I suspect you have too.”

– Susie Saltzman

Nearly ten years ago, I left my job with a luxury fine jewelry retailer. I was at a pivotal point in my life and kept wondering what I was meant to do next. I began more seriously designing for myself…as an outlet and creative expression of some sort. And there, on the brink of a new journey, searching for direction, I found myself drawn to the idea of a compass.

At its simplest, the compass is a magnetized piece of metal that turns in the direction of the Earth’s magnetic pole. However, when you use a compass, you are in touch with the very center of the planet. One could draw a parallel that if you use your own inner compass, you are profoundly in touch with your guiding heart.

A sense of direction is priceless upon life’s course. Like a compass, I’ve always relied on my heart to guide my metaphorical travels – and when it comes to the most personal things, I suspect you have too.

This idea of a journey became my signature mark, and so you will see an intentional, directional emphasis throughout my designs. My signature engagement rings have a North-South-East-West detail, highlighted through either prongs and/or accent diamonds. And those who wear one know that this inspiration was taken from the compass and derived from the idea of trusting yourself and following your own heart.

As I was (and am indefinitely) on a personal journey, I want to encourage others to embrace their own personal journey…Chase your dreams, follow your heart, fall in love, forge your own path, take the road less traveled… And share that story… Celebrate who you’ve become and keep a little piece of your journey with you to remind you of your strength, your resilience, your hope, your passage

This is why I invite you to be part of personalizing your jewelry with me and be part of custom-making something that I hope to be yours and your family’s for a lifetime. When you look down at your jewelry over the years and when your jewelry is eventually passed down, I want there to be a story that lives on with it, as well as a new story that is continuously written and retold.

My hope is that whatever path life leads you on, your heart guides you, and my jewelry is symbolic of that personal, beautiful voyage.
