Five Engagement Ring Trends for 2022

(1) The biggest trend I think by far will be personalization

....Now more than ever, people want to put their own mark on their engagement ring. They want input on the details without having to sacrifice guidance from an expert designer. They also want connection, for obvious reason! This is such an emotional, sentimental purchase, and I think the more personally involved they are, and the more collaboration they have with their designer of choice, the more meaning and memory there is, built into the ring. I am seeing a lot of couples design their ring together; I think for this precise reason. In the end, they want the ring to be their own, an expression of their own style and story. What better way to do that, then custom design your ring!

(2) Special or Unusual Cuts

People want their ring to be their own...special, unique, like no other.  For this reason, unexpected cuts are spiking in popularity.  Trillions, Shields, Rose Cuts, Hexagon Cuts - just to name a few!  Traditionally reserved as "accent" or "side" stones, these shapes are now taking center stage.  I think they can be really special and make a statement.  There also is a lot of variation from one stone to another within these "types or shapes" of diamonds.  No two shields are the same, and I think that element further enhances the uniqueness and distinctiveness of a special cut.

(3) Three Stone Rings

I think we will continue to see the Three Stone Ring gain popularity.  People are finding ways to make them unique by using colored gemstone side stones or playing with the scale and proportion of the stones.  The beauty of the three stone ring is that you get a lot of diamond coverage across the finger and a lot of carat weight at a more affordable price point.  There also is the obvious story behind the three stone ring - past present future - which can be carried forward to mean more - you me us or you me baby ...it's a ring with endless meaning and a significance you can personalize to tell your own story.

(4) Vintage Inspired, Cluster Rings

While a vintage engagement ring is appealing, it can be limiting, by the sheer fact that it's already designed, fabricated.  You have no control over details, like the shape of the center stone, the height of the diamond off your finger, the shape of the band.  However, people are drawn to vintage and antique jewelry because of the fine detail and the sentiment that it evokes...an old world love.  For this reason, I think "vintage-inspired" design is really appealing.  There are ways to infuse vintage elements in modern design - stone shapes, milgrain details, attributes that will allow your custom designed ring to feel like an heirloom, without having to sacrifice quality.

(5) Hidden Micropave Details

We've seen the hidden pave halo come into great popularity these past few years, and I think people are tiring of the trend but still craving some sort of hidden, secret design detail in their ring.  When done right, micropave is a true art...each diamond, set meticulously under the microscope by hand, micropave prongs or a hidden pave "bridge" as you see in my Signature Attraversiamo Design here, feel fresh.  It can be a unique way to infuse subtle sparkle in a quiet way.  You can read more about the meaning behind my Attraversiamo Collection here!
