Gold in its pure state is 24K. It is often alloyed, or mixed, with other metals to give it ideal properties for metal smithing. The karat decreases as the gold content decreases, and the final karat indicates the number of parts gold out of 24K. Susie Saltzman chooses to work in 18K Gold, opposed to 14K or 10K, because it is more precious and we feel more appropriate for a lifetime keepsake and a significant purchase. 14K is often reserved for fashion jewelry. Because it is less parts gold, it's more affordable than 18K.
Susie Saltzman prides herself on upholding the highest standards in jewelry fabrication, craftsmanship and materials. For this reason, our fine jewelry is made in 18K Gold or Platinum.
